A short hike above the treeline
September 2026 · Mountains
The path starts as a service road and narrows quickly. Waterproof boots matter more than poles; the last kilometre is mostly wet rock.
Timing
Start early. The cloud usually comes in after lunch, and the section above the treeline loses the view first.
What to take
A light shell, one litre of water, and a map you have actually looked at on paper. The phone will lose signal near the ridge.
Arriving late in a small city
August 2026 · Cities
The station is ten minutes from the centre, which is exactly the right distance for a late arrival. Most kitchens close at ten, but bakeries open early.
First hour
Drop the bag, walk one block in each direction, and find where the street lights end. That is usually where the good part begins.
Ferry schedule, northern coast
October 2026 · Coast
Two ferries a day, and the second one is the one you want if you are walking. The crossing takes about forty minutes and the wind on deck is stronger than the forecast suggests.
